In an attempt to increase the integrity of our posts, I've introduced an ISFAT rating system! Basically, it's used to rate how annoying you think the problem being ranted about is. Do NOT rate topics on the way it was written, phrased, or formatted. This should help everyone in being able to distinguish the ISFATs that need urgent advice or are worth replying to, from the stuff that won't be getting a marching parade with 76 bloody trombones and all.

The ratings will only be available for ISFAT topics, and you can rate a topic by clicking on the "Rating" menu at the top of a topic page.

There are three rating choices: weak, mild and spicy - and relate to either a green, yellow or red Ranty in the voting choices. Based on flavors of chicken - the terms mean different things when applied to an ISFAT:

Weak: This is the "lowest" rating. I am in no way suggesting that one problem is more annoying or important than another, but regardless, some ISFATs may require less attention than others. We welcome ISFATs about all issues, big or small. The weak rating should be used on an ISFAT when the content isn't really of a serious nature or isn't a pressing issue. It also should be used when the content of an ISFAT provokes off topic chat in the ISFAT topic, or when advice and feedback are not needed. (Example of what I'd call a 'weak' topic: Coldness)

Mild: This is the "middle" rating. Mild should be used when the content of an ISFAT is of a serious nature or provokes insightful feedback, including shared stories or experiences. (Example of what I'd call a 'mild' topic: Third Wheel)

Spicy: This is the "highest" rating. You should use the spicy rating when the content or issues brought up in the ISFAT are highly controversial, of a sensitive nature, or when advice is urgently required about a pressing issue. (Example of what I'd call a 'spicy' topic: I WANT OUT!)

You get the idea. The final rating that is applied to a topic is based on the average rating of all votes, so it really comes down to what type of issues you associate the words (weak, mild and spicy) with, hence the "community based" part of the rating system.

Please don't abuse the system to attract attention to your own posts. If you do, I'll come after you and make you listen to an Ashlee Simpson song - possibly TWO if you really get on my nerves!

I'd appreciate some feedback regarding the new ISFAT rating system, and I hope this brings us closer to creating a more effective rant/advice site.

Happy ranting, guys.

well for starters i thought there was already a rating system in place. im sure i've seen "mild/cold" and "spicy/hot" labeled threads in the past. Perhaps what sexy was getting at was that there really isn't much practical use for this system. When i log in i got to "new posts" and i read them. Now i'm not going to go "well that thread is mild so i'm not going to read that one." Perhaps if there were dozens of posts a day this feature would come in handy but to be honest it just seems like a gimmick.

So people who need "urgent" advice eg "omg what do i do? my boyfriend's a jerk etc" are going to end up with their threads as "spicy". What does this mean to me? Nothing. I post on threads that interest me not the ones that people think are more important. Evil, i applaud you for trying to improve the site but to me a ratings system to threads is just silly tongue.gif

I might be wrong, but the way I saw it was that sexy wtf'd at someone signing up just to post "thanks very much" to a news post about something as mundane as topic ratings, that was posted a year ago.

And if the way I see it is correct, then I must admit I share sexy's "wtf" laugh.gif
