ISFAT stupid people ask so many stupid questions. |
![]() ![]() |
It's Maths Methods, and we're learning integration. "Now, we're integrating from b to a. Always have the greatest x-value which is 'b' at the top, and the lowest which is 'a' at the bottom. And because we're calculating the area, we want the value to be positive." Stupid idiotic person who shall remain nameless: "But, why can't you do it the other way around and have the lowest at the top?" Whole class collectively: "Oh shut up." Stupid idiotic person now with stupid idiotic grin on her stupid idiotic face: "What? It's a fair question." Teacher in a patronising voice: "Remember, we want the area, so the value has to be positive." FUCK I HATE THAT PERSON. EVERY SINGLE FUCKING LESSON, HOLDING UP THE ENTIRE BLOODY CLASS. I'm well aware that methods classes have long since finished, but when I think of all the extra time we could have spent LEARNING instead of answering her inane, stupid and utterly pointless questions, we could probably have learnt another entire topic. The whole year we were behind, and we ended up being behind by a week. I don't blame it entirely on her, that would be silly, but it really pisses me off that teachers cannot tell students to shutup when they're being stupid. They can tell kids to shutup when they; interrupt, are being rude or are disrupting others, but there's some sort of stupid politically correct barrier that prevents teacher from protecting the intelligent people's braincells from having genocide committed upon them. FUCK It shits me so badly. Dear stupid people: If you know you're stupid, and you know that your question is stupid, save it until after class and ask the teacher AFTERWARDS. Remember, teachers have been trained to deal with idiocy for many years. Fresh, young students don't need developing brains exposed to your lack of intellect. <End rant> <End elitism> This post has been edited by insanekilla: Nov 4 2006, 10:45 AM |

Topic cleaned, please keep personal details out of ISFATs

Stop censoring. God, you're worse than the FCC.

mmm.. i hate stupid questions too.. they are really irritating.. esp when the teacher just explains something and then they ask for what something is WHEN THEY JUST SAID IT!!!
my methods teacher annoyed me.... i got bored in class and tried to go ahead with the topic but she told me off and MADE ME DO STUFF ON MY CALCULATOR THAT I ALREADY KNEW HOW TO DO.. thus wasting my precious time and giving me more homework... gah.. |
Maybe you should try sleeping through math classes. Makes the dumb people just disappear.
|
makes everything disappear!

mm that is a good idea.. but id rather get my work done in class so i dont have to do it at home..

insanekilla... considering ur "elitism" wouldn't it have been wise to go hire yourself a tutor and get ahead of work? sure you could argue why should i get a tutor and pay them when im paying my school...that stupid person is paying the school too. that teacher has a responsibility to answer those questions, no matter how stupid they are. and no, the answer is not to wait until afterwards to ask a question - study the brain a bit, you'll find that it's too late. if you're learning to drive... do you ask where the brake is after you need it? no you need to these things before applying them. stupid people or not, the downside of an education system that operates as ours and uhm...98% of the worlds do...we have classes, everyone in that class deserves the respect despite how stupid we may think they are. if they think it was a valid question, then it was valid. luckily for you, you didn't have a problem with it. and because one person in the class had the guts to ask the question, are you going to speak for your class and say no one, at all, even had that question in there mind...even if they would later dismiss themselves?
asking questions is part of a class, if you were behind that is...and mark my words, your teachers fault, not the student for asking questions. your teacher should be better organised and if a class did lose time, it should compromise a way in which to regain lost time, which can easily be done - despite not being able to turn a clock backwards. so in closing insanekilla, think about the stupid person - the role of the school...and the role of your teacher. don't place any blame on the stupid people, they have every right to ask every stupid question they so damn want to - as long as its on topic, otherwise they can just shut the fuck up. oh and if you participated in the whole "oh shut up" groan when the stupid person asked the question, you've just put sand on someones fire - and if any of you...ANY OF YOU ISFATTERS like Jules Lund from Channel 9s getaway, it will pay you to know.. that putting sand on someones fire is one his biggest dislikes. Jules Lund is prime television meat ladies and gentlemen, his words are God - i am thankful i was attendance at a Reach workshop where he gave us the analogy of putting sand on people's fires. Message to you insanekilla...jules lund says no, i say no... don't put sand on peoples fire, put dried grass and leaves on it and if its necessary leave a grain a sand behind, not a handful. I agree with both insanekilla and kiki here, questions are genuinely important and should be asked if you don't understand something but should also only be asked once you've actually made an attempt at understanding, first step is always to think about it; If you haven't thought about it, then you're not ready to ask a question. There's generally notes of some description you can look at be it from your text book, what the teacher has written or the board or maybe even handed out, look at them they're their for a reason.
Yes everyone has a right to a good education but that everyone includes the higher end students as well as the lower ones, I'm sick of just reading ahead in the book or just doing some more questions which never challenged me to begin with so the teacher can help one student who's not grasping it. Selfish yes, unreasonable not entirely. |
While u make a good point fedora pirate... but this just brings it back to the downside of a class system, and unfortunately - unless we increase taxes to an exorbitant level this cannot, will not and ...should not change. You're sick of working ahead... i'm sure some people are sick of working behind. Everyone, as you so wisely mentioned, has the right to education and an equal one at that. Shall i explore the word equal? equal does not necessarily mean to be taught to the same degree as everyone else, although this is encouraged, practically - it means to be taught at the same level. If students are behind, and students are ahead - this is not equal. hence, teachers sometimes prevent some students from working too far ahead because it puts a greater strain on them in trying to get the whole class to their level. For the students who are far behind, this also puts a greater strain on the teachers again... the reason you'll see more attention given to these students is because its far more important to catch up than to slow down in our education system which is so heavily reliant on timing.
And while timing could be an argument to ignore them - neglecting a student does not get results, and in a system such as the VCE results are important for a school not just the students, as horrible as that is. Unfortunately, schools are degraded to being judged upon their ranking in a state that does not take into account many aspects of an education. So while you might find it annoying...put up with it. Im usually the one ahead and I've just officially year 12 classes. One way to put up with it, is to help them as well. In VCE helping your classmates benefits you in a number of ways. First of all, teaching someone else something you understand but they don't is great revision - this will benefit come the end of the year. Another important factor is that VCE success is a class effort not an individual effort, as it is commonly misconstrued. Your class performance can greatly determine your own performance. If the lower 2 people in your class perform horribly on the exam, and the upper 2 perform greatly and everyone else to their expected level - when matched with the state, the upper people get just above average, lower below average, the in betweens the average 30. Of course the figures vary, but if everyone in the class performs to higher standard, everyone gets a better study score. So if you're interested in succeeding...you should be interested in helping them, not criticising them or rolling your eyes at them. I personally help people from my class - today, 2 days before my legal exam, i tutored someone from my legal class who frankly has no idea, for 9 hours. do that... and its helping you. im aware of the benefits that 9 hours did for me today, even if it felt like i was going over things i didnt have to and i should be focussed on other things. HELP PEOPLE DONT CRITICISE! |
I do help, I'm my classes helper type person in chem, physics, maths methods and specialist maths. I roll my eyes and complain when:
1. Someone asks a question without even thinking about it, and occasionally when they ask a question without doing the other things I mentioned in my last post (depends on the situation and question) 2. When the teacher won't even tell those of us who understand the topic and generally have done all the work what we should be moving on with. So we just have to sit their twiddling our thumbs listening to this conversation that a lot of the time can just confuse us on a topic we understand. |
