there is nothing wrong with wearing "expensive clothing" everything i wear is over 70 dollers and i dont think that makes me a conformist, i work for my money and il bloodly well wear what i want to wear, if what i wear makes me happy i dont care that its expensive, thats why i bought it, and frankly saying that just because people "follow" trends they are conformist's, is just judgmental, how do you know that they dont like and enjoy what they wear same as you do, and by saying "eh im not gonna get any of there clothes i wanna be origanal il go to savers and get cheap stuff" your as big a conformist as they are, i mean all your doing is conforming to not being a conformist, the second somthing becomes popular "eh thats crap, if other people like it its crap"
well screw you, and another thing, quif's are awesome, no shit they have been around along time, they have been around since the 50s, just becuase people get them doesnt mean they are trying to be new, i have friends with quifs and iv had a quif aswell.

A trendie is someone who wears denim or tracksuits and named clothes such as FCUK, some smoke, some do not, most of these Trendies get on with Chavs, Townies, Punks, Greebos and anyone alike, they do hold grudges against anyone. They listen to dance music and rnb.

Meh - I dont think all fashion victims are bad. Some just do it cos it makes them feel better about themselves. It fills up that empty hold inside of them that yearns for love =) While I disagree with a life based around fashion, and judging others because of it - I dont think everybody's that bad.
Who knows - fashion's always changing. People might, too.

Fashion isn't bad (it's actually quite fabulous darling). Bad fashion is bad.
Take a look a real fashion, and compare that to the trash you get in Highpoint's Supre. We're not all bad. And we still happen to like the clothes we wear. A great stylist said to me that the trendiest people know how to pull off every style, with their own individual take.

My rant is that fluro tracksuit pants have to be the most ridculaous fashion trend. Friday after school I went to go have a hot chocolate at the shopping mall with some friends and I couldnt belive how many teenagers wear them. Stores charge $90 for A PAIR OF TRACKSUIT PANTS (which fade horribly).
Remembering back to days in year 8 I made a pair of tracksuit pants overall? I think it cost me $6 for material. They are a complete rip off.
I was also browseing at a shop called Dangerfield in the city with my friend looking for a jacket. There on display was a flannelet (flanny) shirt. They were charging $89.95! it also had a tiny logo at the bottom right of the shirt that you could hardly even see. Now I know you can walk to your local coles and buy almost the same thing for $5.
What fashion trends do you hate? What do you think is a complete rip off?

Sack dresses, are we talking about pinafores? I'm not entirely sure. The supre' shirts are rather hideous, but they arent all bad. I think having stuff about Global Warming on them is a good way to get kids to be aware of the issue.
As for fake tans.. Basically my whole school has them. Its terrible. The other day I saw my friend Brooke and I SWEAR she was a carrot.

this is a demeaning, inflammatory thread...i'm actually offended by most of it. half the crap a lot of you are saying is no less superficial than the trendies you stereotype. and i read... bad fashion is bad? ok, so because someone is wearing two different tones of grey they are a victim? they need help? the clothes on their back are so horrible that they must be inferior? oh and omg, i paid $300 for a pair of jeans. automatically i must be a trendie. and im stupid for paying for it. find me that exact pair cheaper elsewhere. find it in an op shop. because you wont. before you all launch into clothing expense arguments, think about it. why the hell do you think shops like edge have 150% mark ups while shops like target have markups of about 5%? it makes more sense if you think about it economically or from a business perspective. on top of that, you will also find that many items in the high price range are superior goods (in the economic sense, not the im so much better sense).

Is it because Target has more customers? Or perhaps Targets products are more expensive to begin with (which I seriously doubt)? Either way what difference does it make, if you accept the product only costs 40% of what you're paying why would you pay that much? (oh just thought of another possible reason - what edge sells can only be got at Edge (as in they have monopoly)?)

Because $300 jeans last 10 times longer than $30 jeans? It's all the work of cheap labour and almost identical materials. I agree that branded stuff is a rip off but like most people, i have well-known brand clothes.
I do agree with kiki for the greater part tho. I don't think the majority of people buy clothes so they can act like they're better than everyone else. If you happen to like expensive stuff then that should be fine. I'm so sick of the "im an individual" attitude of everyone. It's bullshit. And you don't all dress simply for comfort. That's just not true because taste comes into it. I don't think anyone should make assumptions that people wearing trendie clothes are insecure or deeply troubled or anything like that. God forbid someone actually likes clothes that are expensive or popular. Oh no, they shouldn't get those clothes because then they will be conformist robots. gimme a break. Most "trendie" people wouldn't have such sinister motives as some of you would suggest.
Anyway, I don't think there is much use taking pot-shots at people who wear coloured headbands or fluero tracksuit pants, even though i don't like them. lol @ ugg boots (is that with one G or 2?)

Firstly, just a note to say I'm merging the "Expensive rip offs" thread with this one, cause it's pretty much the same thing being talked about.
Gotta say I'm with kiki on this (Edit: and now CH!MP too!)
With the thinking behind a lot of the posts in this thread and the expensive rip offs thread, why don't we all just dress up in cotton rags and material sacks? I mean, that's essentially what we're all paying for, right? Why skip the whole production process? It's just an unnecessary waste of money! Gosh, we're being ripped off, here!
I'm not saying buying cheap is a bad thing. It may very well be the most practical thing to do. And although I agree that those sack dresses have set back the fashion industry almost as much as Ashlee Simpson's career has set back the music industry, all I'm saying is that people who buy expensive clothes shouldn't be judged for it - the same way the scene junkies and rich kids shouldn't judge others who choose to do their shopping at Target. Unless of course it's Ashlee Simpson we're judging. Then you can judge.
Being a label junkie myself, I pay at least $50 AUD (about $42 USD) for most of my t-shirts. Why?

I wear what I'm comfortable in and that's just it, I don't care if it's "so last year" I like it and that's all that matters.
Cause it's what I'm comfortable in. I don't buy for the hell of it, or because of some trend. I know they're expensive and I'm pretty selective in what I buy. If I liked a pair of jeans, I would buy them regardless. That goes for $30 jeans and $200 jeans. It just so happens a lot of the stuff I end up liking is a tad more expensive than the cheaper alternatives. Doesn't make me a horrible person who lacks money spending discipline, it just means I have a different taste to yours. Until I or any of the scene junkies who pay $90 for sacks with sloppy slogans on them actually come up to you and say "HA, my clothes are better than yours!" I don't see what the big deal is and why the need for a hippy clothing revolution is being summoned.
And before you call me nuts for buying $75 t-shirts from Mooks when I could easily pay $10 for a plain white tee at Target, lemme ask you guys this. How many of you own an iPod instead of a cheap $30 mp3 player or walkman? It's the exact same thing. Just as I choose to do a little name brand shopping with clothes, people (including most of you) pay hundreds of dollars to have an iPod, even when faced with a much cheaper alternative that essentially does the same thing. Why? Cause they're sleeker. They're shinier. iPods are basically the same as any other mp3 player. It's just in a pretty package. And it's okay to treat yourself and feel a little pretty!

Not me, I have what I like to call my poor man's ipod - a MP3 CD player that I got for $25, I'd love a Hard disk based MP3 Player but there's only like 3 on the market (ipod, zen and iRiver as far as I know) and all are quite expensive and none of them I'm completely satisfied with.
